This is the basics of using the
MarESIG wiki
Viewing
To view the site, click your way around it as you would a more traditional website; use the
WikiWords as links between topics. The menus on the left hand side should help with the basic navigation.
If you put a page in your bookmarks or favourites it won't show .htm at the end - this is normal for wikis.
Editing
You need to
Register to edit pages.
When you Register, the wiki will give you your
WikiName like
BrianSherwoodJones, which can be used when editing and supplying comments.
On the page where you would like to make a change, add a comment or upload a picture or a document, click the
Edit button at the top of the page or the one at the bottom of the page. You will be asked for your
WikiName and password. An edit version of the page will appear.
There are some rules about formatting; there is help on this below the edit area of the page you are editing. Basically, don't worry. Plain text will work and the worst that you can do is to create links you didn't mean to, and these don't really matter. (They can be created by using a
CamelCase word like a
WikiName when you didn't mean to create a link or by using square brackets).
If you want to create a new page then type in a new
CamelCase word. When you save the page, the word will come up with a little question mark next to it. Click on the question mark and off you go. (Double check the spelling and use of case - this page got it wrong and has been left as a warning; however it is relatively easy to fix ).
More elaborate formatting is of course welcome and up to you. Wikis keep all previous versions so they can be recovered very easily.
If you only make a tiny change that would not warrant recording a change or notifying other users about it then use the button Minor changes or
QuietSave.
Off you go - try the slogan competition as a
SandBox? or play area.

Being notified about changes
If you would like to be notified by email of changes to the main
MarESIG website then you need to Register and then use the
WebNotify facility. The alternatives are to use the Changes facility and see what has happened since your last visit to the site, or to use an RSS feed to your browser
