Ship Visit Work Sheets

This project aims to develop educational sheets so members of the public can learn about ergonomics whilst visiting HMS Belfast. The steps are:

1. Gather checklist material for an ergonomic review of an old ship.

2. Gather material on how to write work sheets. One approach to developing these sheets is to gather examples of best practice and base information and designs on them - I think a professional educational sheet designed for teachers and specific key stages may be beyond this project. Define the age group of interest; might be better aimed at 16 and older?

3. Find experts on the historical use of the ship e.g. someone who would know how the ship was used.

4. Arrange a workshop/day out for current maritime ergonomists to tour the ship and identify aspects of potential interest to visitors. The output from the workshop is a set of draft worksheets. a) Contact the HMS Belfast to see whether they are interested in what we're doing and whether they would like to have access to the information we gather, sheets we produce and whether they'd like to offer some support. They don't have to be interested and offer support, we can do this ourselves, but it should interest them and they could benefit form the work. b) Canvass key participants of maritime and LEG for a suitable date. I presume this will be a Saturday morning, following the pattern of previous visits. Also, that it'll be in the summer, perhaps late June or July. c) Organise further details of the visit: Plan times, costs, refreshments, meeting place if necessary, etc.

5. Convert the draft material to material for use by the museum or ship. Have some material for World Usability Day, which might also be useful for the Society's 60th celebrations in 2009.

6. (If necessary) produce material for e.g. teachers.
