CHIRP's objects are

  • to carry out research on the causes of incidents and accidents involving aviation and maritime modes of transportation through a confidential reporting system for the collection of Human Factors safety related issues,

The overarching site for the Human Element is at the IMO site, noting particularly the vision, principles and goals. http://www.imo.org

This site hopes to assist in the achievement of the vision, principles and goals by improving the definition of issues and considering the effectiveness of various control measures.

There are two complementary sites to this one.

The HE Alert! website is concerned with raising awareness and informing the marine professional about known issues and known control measures. To some extent, this site should provide material that can be used by Alert! http://www.he-alert.org/

The Maritime Human Factors Research Group (MHFRG) is developing a website at http://www.maritimehumanfactors.org/ This is concerned with research community activities, and it is planned that there is a two-way flow of information between the Maritime Ergonomics SIG and the MHFRG..
